The South Carolina College- and Career- READY Assessments (SC READY) are statewide assessments in English language arts (ELA), mathematics, and science. All students in grades 3-8 are required to take the SC READY tests except those who qualify for the South Carolina Alternate Assessment (SC-Alt). Students in grades 3-8 take ELA and mathematics. Students in grade 4 and 6 also take science.
The Education Accountability Act of 1998 requires the development of end-of-course examinations in gateway or benchmark courses. The program is called End-of-Course-Examination Program (EOCEP). An EOCEP test is administered to students at the end of the semester in which they are scheduled to complete the course. The tests, which count 20 percent of a student's final grade in each gateway or benchmark course, currently include Algebra 1, English 2, U.S. History and the Constitution, and Biology 1.
Since Spring 2018, all students in their third year of high school have taken a career readiness assessment which measures job and soft skills.

Since the 2017-18 school year, students in their third year of high school have the choice of taking either The ACT or the SAT on a school day. The ACT and SAT are tools that assess readiness for college.
