Six New Assistant Principals Named in District 50

Six new assistant principals were announced following the Greenwood School District 50 March Board of Trustees meeting.


Ruth Ransdell has been named as a new assistant principal at Benjamin E. Mays Elementary School. Ransdell has worked in Newberry County Schools as a literacy coach and an elementary school teacher for the last 15 years. Ransdell obtained her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Colorado and her Master of Arts in Curriculum & Instruction from New Mexico Highlands University.. In 2020, she received her Education Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision from Clemson University.

  

Julia McClanahan has been named as the new assistant principal at Woodfields Elementary School. McClanahan has served as an ACTS art teacher at Brewer Middle School for the last seven years. During her 12 years in public education, she has worked as a middle and elementary art teacher in Greenwood School District 50, Laurens County School District 56, and Florence County School District 3. McClanahan received her bachelor’s degree from College of Charleston and her Master of Arts in Teaching from Lander University. She recently obtained her doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Clemson University.


Jason Hayes has been named as the new assistant principal at Mathews Elementary School. Hayes is currently a teacher at Ninety Six High School, a position he has held for the last two years. During his 23 year career in public education, Hayes has worked as a teacher, assistant principal, and athletic coach. Hayes obtained his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Winthrop University and his master’s degree from Converse College. In 2016, Hayes received his Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University.


Nick Milford will be the new assistant principal at Emerald High School. Milford has worked as a special education teacher in Abbeville County School District for the last 13 years. Milford received his bachelor’s degree from Lander University and his Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Supervision from Grand Canyon University.


Matthew Hill has been named as the new assistant principal at Greenwood High School. Hill has served as a social studies teacher in Greenville County Schools for the last three years. During his 13 years in public education, Hill has worked as a teacher, summer school administrator, and athletic coach. Hill obtained his bachelor’s degree in history from Presbyterian College and his master’s degree from Lamar University. 


Brittany Callaham has been named as the new assistant principal at Greenwood High School. Callaham previously served as a Special Education teacher in District 50 for two years. Prior to returning to District 50 this year, Callaham worked as a special education teacher in McCormick County School District. Callaham has worked as a teacher and an athletic coach for various varsity level sports. Callaham graduated from Lander University in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in Special Education and add-on of Elementary Education. She obtained her Master's degree from Clemson University in Administration and Supervision and is currently working on her doctoral degree in Education Leadership from Northcentral University.


The Board of Trustees also approved other assistant principal changes at the March Board meeting. These changes included: 


  • Ongela Nance will be the new assistant principal at Lakeview Elementary School.
  • CJ Johnson will be the new assistant director at Genesis Education Center.
  • Jessica Sprouse will be the new assistant director at G. Frank Russell Technology Center.
  • Taylor Crosby will be the new assistant director at the Early Childhood and Montessori School.
