The Rotary Club of Greenwood gifted new shoes and socks to a few hundred students of Woodfields Elementary School as a part of their Happy Feet service project.
Each year, Rotarians from around the globe participate in projects that benefit individuals on a local level all the way to an international level. While members of the Rotary Club of Greenwood have their hands in many different areas of the service arena, recently they worked with Greenwood School District 50 officials and Houser Shoes to provide 225 pairs of new tennis shoes and 576 pairs of socks to some of the students at Woodfields Elementary School.
“This has been a challenging year for children due to the pandemic, and we feel blessed to be able to meet a need and be a bright spot for the kids,’’ says Club President Pamela Vaughn. The club worked diligently over the course of months to come up with a new service project that would benefit a section of the local population, assisting them with basic needs and giving them tools to be successful in school. Greenwood School District 50’s Director of Communication and Public Information Officer Johnathan Graves said, “We are very appreciative of Greenwood Rotary Club including our students at Woodfields Elementary in the Happy Feet project. This tremendous donation will allow our children to continue having a successful school year socially, emotionally, and academically. On behalf of the students and teachers at Woodfields, we would like to thank Greenwood Rotary and Houser Shoes for making this donation possible."
As the Rotarian vision states, “together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.” For over 100 years, the Rotary Club of Greenwood has created lasting change by creating and executing various service projects, raising and granting out funds to local nonprofit organizations and activities throughout the year.
