Greenwood School District 50 recently announced the resignation of longtime Board of Trustees member Tony Bowers, who has faithfully served the students, staff, and community of District 50 for the past 23 years.
Throughout his tenure, Mr. Bowers has been a dedicated advocate for public education and has played a significant role in guiding the district through periods of new school construction, renovations, academic growth, leadership changes, and outstanding accolades and achievements. His commitment to student success, support for all D50 employees, and attention to the district's long-term needs have left a lasting impact during his time as a D50 Board of Trustees member.
“It has been an honor and privilege to serve the students, families, employees, and community of District 50,” said Bowers. “Over the past 23 years, I have witnessed tremendous growth and progress throughout our schools. I am proud of what we have accomplished together and remain grateful for the opportunity to have served alongside so many amazing educators, administrators, board members, and community leaders who work every day to make a difference in our students' lives.”
Board Chairman Clay Sprouse expressed appreciation for Mr. Bowers' decades of service and leadership.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank Tony for his extraordinary commitment to our district and community,” said Sprouse. “For more than two decades, he has been a tireless advocate for our students and staff and has consistently placed the best interests of the district at the forefront of every decision. His leadership and dedication to public education have helped shape District 50 into the district it is today. We are grateful for his service and wish him the very best moving forward.”
Mr. Bowers currently serves in Seat 5 on the Board of Trustees. In accordance with state law, a general election will be held in November 2026 to fill the remainder of his term. The individual elected will serve the final two years of Mr. Bowers' four-year term.
