D50 Announces Leadership Changes at Merrywood Elementary School and Westview Middle School

Greenwood School District 50 has announced leadership changes, with two experienced school administrators assuming new roles for the upcoming school year.

Brian Perrin to Lead Westview Middle School as Principal

Brian Perrin has been named as Principal at Westview Middle School. Perrin is currently completing his eighth year as the Principal at Merrywood Elementary School. During his 17 years in District 50, Perrin has served as an administrator, teacher, and interventionist. He is a graduate of Lander University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and History. He received his Master's of Education degree in Administration and Supervision from Clemson University.

In this new role, Perrin will bring extensive experience in instructional leadership, student support, and school culture to the middle school level.

“I have truly enjoyed serving the students, families, and staff at Merrywood,” Perrin stated. “This school community holds a special place in my heart, and I am incredibly proud of all that we have accomplished together. While it is difficult to leave such a wonderful school, I am excited about the opportunity to continue serving our students at Westview and supporting them during this important stage of their educational journey.”

“We are grateful for the tremendous leadership that Mr. Perrin has provided at the elementary level,” said Superintendent Shane Goodwin. “The experience and dedication he brings to this new role will help ensure a smooth transition for students and staff while continuing to build on the strong foundation already in place at Westview.”

Eric Syswerda Named Assistant Director at the G. Frank Russell Technology Center

As part of the transition, Eric Syswerda, current principal of Westview Middle School, will move into a new role as Assistant Director at the G. Frank Russell Technology Center. In this position, Syswerda will help support the expansion and coordination of career and technical education programs that prepare students for college and career pathways.

Syswerda is currently completing his fourth year as Principal at Westview. During his 30-year career in public education, Syswerda has worked as a teacher, administrator, and athletic coach in District 50 and Greenwood School District 52. Syswerda obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from Taylor University in Indiana and his Master’s degree from the U.S. Sports Academy. In 2013, Syswerda received his Education Specialist degree in Administration from Clemson University.

“It has been an honor to work alongside the students, staff, and families at Westview,” said Syswerda. “I am grateful for the relationships and accomplishments we have shared during my time here. I look forward to this new opportunity at the Technology Center, where I can continue helping students discover career pathways and real-world opportunities for their future.”

“Mr. Syswerda has been an outstanding leader for Westview and has made a meaningful impact on the school’s students, staff, and families,” Goodwin said. “We are excited to see him bring that same passion and leadership to the Technology Center as we continue expanding opportunities for students through our career and technical education programs.”

The principal position at Merrywood Elementary School will be posted soon, and the district will begin accepting applications from qualified candidates interested in serving the school community.
