Greenwood School District 50 Assistant Superintendent for Business, Mr. Rodney Smith, has announced plans to retire.
Smith, who has served as Assistant Superintendent for Business for the past 6 years, will continue in his role with the district until the end of February.
Prior to joining District 50, Smith served as the Chief Financial Officer for Laurens County School District 55 for seven years. Before working in District 55, Smith served as the Director of Finance for Greenwood School District 52 for five years. Smith received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina and has received certification as a Government Financial Officer and School Business Official.
“It has been a blessing working in Greenwood School District 50,” Smith stated. “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with our business department and district staff to support the needs of our students, teachers, and staff in our schools. I appreciate the support of our students, teachers, administrators, and community working together to create so many wonderful memories. I look forward to seeing our schools and community continue to grow.”
Superintendent Shane Goodwin expressed his deep gratitude for Smith’s dedication and years of service to the district.
“Mr. Smith has provided outstanding leadership to District 50 over the past six years,” Mr. Goodwin said. “He has a proven track record of success in public education and has strived to keep our district in excellent financial standing. It has been an honor to get to know him on a professional and personal level since I arrived in District 50 a few months ago. On behalf of our Board of Trustees and District 50 family, I wish Mr. Smith and his family the very best.”
