Merrick Owen Named New Assistant Director of Special Services

Merrick Owen has been named the new Assistant Director of Special Services for the 2025-2026 school year. Owen is currently the Special Education Compliance Coordinator in Chester County School District, a position she has held since 2022. 

 

Owen said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to join D50 in my new role with the Special Services department. I look forward to working with Dr. Gast and our teachers, staff, and parents to provide our special services students with a quality educational experience.” 

 

Owen brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having previously worked for 10 years at Chester County School District as a high school special education teacher and middle school ELA teacher. Owen has also taught as a middle school ELA teacher in Edgefield County School District and Calhoun Falls Public Charter School.

 

In addition to her professional experience, Owen attended Lander University and received her Bachelor's degree in English. In 2011, she obtained her Master's of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.

 

Director of Special Services Dr. Ginny Gast expressed confidence in Owen’s new role, stating, “Mrs. Owen has a proven track record of success and I am confident she will excel in her new role. I look forward to working with her and our staff to continue building strong relationships with parents, students, and staff.
