D50 Shows Improvement on State Test Scores

On Tuesday, September 5th, the South Carolina Department of Education released the 2023-2024 school year results of the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY) in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics and South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (SCPASS) in Science given in the elementary and middle school grade levels.

“Our district saw significant improvement in several areas of this year’s state assessments,” Superintendent Dr. Steve Glenn stated. “We continue to see growth that has not been experienced in this district for several years. We’re very excited to continue our positive growth trend. We are not where we need to be, but we are getting better.”

According to a South Carolina Department of Education press release, the most recent math results illustrate a state-wide need to prioritize more evidence-based practices and simplify state standards. District 50 continues to notice the impact of the pandemic in our middle schools in mathematics and will work in conjunction with the state to address this subject area.

Highlights from the 2023 SC READY & SCPASS tests included:

  • 100% of Greenwood 50's elementary and middle schools exceeded pre-pandemic (2018-19) scores in ELA.
  • 100% of our grades 3-8 showed growth in ELA over the past year.
  • 75% of our elementary schools exceeded pre-pandemic scores in Math.
  • 63% of our elementary schools have exceeded pre-pandemic scores in Science.
