D50 Board of Trustees Hires Coleman Lew & Associates to Lead New Superintendent Search

On February 5th during a Special Called Board Meeting, the Greenwood School District 50 Board of Trustees voted to enter into an agreement with Coleman Lew & Associates located in Charlotte, NC to lead the search for a new superintendent.

“We are excited to work with a professional executive search firm which specializes in searches for educational leaders,” Board Chairman David Trent stated. “This executive search firm has experience in working with community stakeholders. Our Board believes that this executive search firm will provide much needed guidance, expertise, and resources to engage the Board, teachers, staff, and community throughout the process.”

At its meeting on January 15, 2019, the District 50 Board met to discuss the search process that will be utilized as it begins its search for a permanent superintendent to replace Superintendent Darrell Johnson, who announced his intent to retire effective June 30, 2019. At this meeting, the South Carolina School Board Association provided the District with information regarding their executive searches. On January 28, 2019, the Board interviewed three other search firms, in order to determine which group will be the best fit for the District and Greenwood County.

The firms interviewed on January 28th included: BWP and Associates; Coleman Lew and Associates; and Hazard, Young, and Attea. Each of these firms have experienced conducting superintendent searches on a state and national level. The representatives from these entities did an outstanding job of explaining how they have assisted other public school systems in searches for superintendents and the services they would provide to District 50.

The Board of Trustees and Coleman Lew & Associates plan to meet again in the next week to establish the search process timeline, determine the requirements for the new Superintendent’s position, and discuss other necessary steps to ensure a successful recruitment, interview, and selection process.

“In conjunction with Coleman Lew & Associates, the Board will keep the public apprised as this very important endeavor moves forward,” Board Chairman Trent stated. “The Board’s intent is to appoint a new Superintendent by no later than July 1, 2019.”
