Mentoring For Success Program Recognized as a Champion of Public Education

On Monday, October 15th at the Board of Trustees meeting, South Carolina School Board Association (SCSBA) President Wesley Hightower presented Greenwood School District 50’s Mentoring for Success Program with a Champions for Public Education award. The Champions of Public Education award is presented by SCSBA to community residents, organizations or local businesses/industries whose support of and contributions to public education have significantly benefited the entire school district or public schools statewide.

The Mentoring for Success Program is a mentoring program focusing primarily on middle school minority males. The program is designed to bridge the gap in academic and social development for participants. Adult male volunteer mentors meet with students on a regular basis to offer encouragement and motivation to be successful in school and life.

Thanks to the generous donations raised through our annual golf tournament and the monetary contributions of each mentor, the Mentoring for Success program annually presents a $1,000 scholarship to participants in mentoring programs at Emerald and Greenwood High.

Over the last five years, the Mentoring For Success mentors have contributed a combined total of $35,000 in scholarship monies!
