IMPORTANT: Updated School District 50 Dress Code
The Board of Trustees believes that appropriate student behavior is important to the entire educational
process. Without it, teachers will not be able to teach and students will not be able to learn.
In an effort to have a school environment that is safe, orderly, and conducive to learning, the district
has a dress code for all schools in Greenwood School District 50. All students are expected to follow
the rules established by the school district and by each school. Inappropriate and impermissible student
attire includes, but is not limited to, the following: Clothing or accessories that depict alcohol, drugs,
tobacco, racial slurs/epithets, sexual suggestion/insinuation, inappropriate language, or gang association
are prohibited. Clothing or accessories that depict weapons, including guns, fall into this category and
should not be worn to school or to school functions.
Please talk with your student regarding school safety. Discuss with your child how certain images such
as guns and weapons can cause anxiety and stress in children and may prevent learning.
The Student Rights and Responsibilities state for the first offense of a dress code violation, the
consequence is a parent conference. The consequence for the second offense is a parent conference,
detention or in-school suspension. The consequence for the third offense is an in-school suspension.
