  •  EHS & GHS Graduate Receive AP + PLTW Student Achievement Award from the College Board

     Left to Right: Board Chairman Shell Dula, RTC Director Bonnie Corbitt, RTC Instructor Kim Purcell, and GHS Graduate Oscar Gutierrez (Not pictured EHS Graduate Kenya DeLeon)

    In an effort to encourage students to prepare for the global workforce and to build their interest in STEM degrees and careers,  the College Board and Advanced Placement program has partnered with Project Lead the Way to encourage students to engage in one of three college and career pathways—engineering, biomedical science or computer science.  Students who are eligible for the award must complete one AP course, one PLTW course, and a second either AP or PLTW course of their choice in their chosen pathway.  This award demonstrates to colleges and employers that the student is ready for advanced course work and interested in careers in that discipline.

    At the December Board meeting, two 2017 graduates were recognized for recently being awarded the AP + PLTW Student Achievement Award.

    • Oscar Gutierrez, a GHS graduate, received the College Board Student Achievement Award in Biomedical Science, and is currently attending Lander University;
    • Kenya DeLeon, a graduate of EMD, currently a freshman at Clemson University, who received the Student Achievement Award in Engineering.

    Both students were eligible for membership in both the Academic National Honor Society at their home high schools, and the National Technical Honor Society, sponsored by the G. Frank Russell Technology Center
