Mrs. Erin Owens Whittington, M. Ed.

I am so excited to begin a new school year, and I want to introduce myself to you. My name is Erin (Owens) Whittington, and this is my eleventh year teaching high school English, but my fourth year at Emerald High School. I am (fairly) newly married (2 years in!), and life is pretty wonderful. I am a Clemson University Honors Graduate and diehard fan, which you can see reflected all over my classroom. I have my Masters of Education. I am the main SGA (Student Government Association) Sponsor at EHS, so if your student wishes to get involved, I can say honestly that SGA is responsible for many of the “fun” activities that take place throughout the year. I am the "Yearbook Lady," as the students call me, as well.  Also, I am very patriotic, and your student will witness my love for this great country often. I consider myself to be fair in the classroom, and I also try to handle every day with a humorous outlook and love of life. I believe laughter can make the great times better and the darkest of times brighter, so I laugh a LOT. Jokes, smiles, and laughs make everyone's day better.  I expect ALL students to work hard for me, even if they do not particularly care for English. Ultimately, your student is responsible for his/her work, attitude, and willingness to learn. I will not tolerate laziness because I want ALL of my students to succeed. I feel that my own success can only be determined in terms of my students’ success, and I am a very driven individual who expects nothing less than success in all of my endeavors. It is my job to make your student strong and confident in this classroom, and I take this job very seriously.
