    Dear Parents,

I am Mrs. Dana Duncan and I am very excited to be your child’s Kindergarten teacher this year.  This will be my twenty fourth year teaching kindergarten.  I graduated with honors from Lander with a B.S. Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.  I have also received my Masters Degree in Elementary Education.

I am very family oriented and love the Mathews Community.  This is where I grew up and went to school.  I have been married for twenty four years.  My husband, Steven, works at  Fuji and is a retired from the Air National Guards.  We have a eighteen-year-old miracle, Sean Riley.  He will be attending Lander University.

I love children and feel that five-year-olds are an exciting and loving group of children to work with.  Teaching is part of my life.  I could not imagine doing anything else.  Children at this age are like sponges and absorb so much knowledge in a year’s time.  Just wait and see!

I have respect for my students and expect to have respect from them in return.  I also expect for my students to always do their best and to have a positive outlook towards any learning activity we perform.  I encourage you to always discuss school in a positive manner with your child.  Always ask your child about their school day and show excitement over everything they bring home.

It is very important for your child to have a book bag.  Their schoolwork and other important information will be put in them at the end of each day.  If you need to send money to school with your child, please seal it in an envelope and write the child’s name and what it is for on the outside.  You may send your child an extra set of clothes in a Ziploc bay with their name on the outside.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call the school or write a note.  I plan to have an educational as well as fun filled year with the students.  I am looking forward to a great year getting to know you and your child!
