Choice & Magnet Informational Videos

This year, due to social distancing requirements in our schools, we will not have open houses or information nights for our choice and magnet programs.  Each of our programs have created videos to give a little insight into what they are about and what makes them special.  We are also providing information on registering for these programs for the 2021-2022 school year.
The Greenwood Montessori Program is a choice program for 3-year-old pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students. New students can apply through the lottery from 3k-1st grade. Montessori is a hands-on, individualized approach to learning that is success oriented. Children are taught in a multi-age classroom and remain with the same teacher for 2-3 years. The philosophy of the program is that children have everything they need within themselves to learn and grow. The educator’s job is to prepare the learning environment and guide students in their learning process.
For the 2020 - 2021 school year, our Montessori Program will have a new home, The Greenwood Early Childhood Center.
GSI is located at Hodges Elementary School and available to rising K5-fifth grade students. Students are able to attend this school-program if they are zoned to for Hodges Elementary, or accepted through the lottery application. The purpose of GSI is to develop inquisitive and expressive students who contribute to their school and local community as they prepare to achieve their individual life goals.
The Arts, Communications, Theater, School (ACTS)  is our oldest magnet program, that provides artistically talented students with arts integrated curriculum.  ACTS offers students an opportunity to develop their academic skills in an environment which enhances their artistic talents and interests.

STEMS offers a gifted and talented curriculum for students in grades 6-8, supported by activities designed to help all students explore in the areas math, science, and technology.

In Greenwood 50's Medical Magnet Academy at Northside Middle School, students will be introduced to the field of health sciences through a rigorous academic program. This program will introduce middle school students to the various careers available in the medical field. This early exposure to medical sciences will begin to prepare our students academically to become healthcare professionals. Our goal is to meet the academic needs of our students while preparing them for future success.

Gifted young artists in The Greenwood Fine Arts Academy will receive specialized training in the arts, all while earning their high school diploma.  Students will get choose a particular area of focus including: Band, Chorus, Theatre, or Visual Arts.  Other arts classes offered in this program are Creative Writing and Media Arts. Students participating in the Greenwood Fine Arts Academy will be highly competitive for admission to rigorous university programs.
AVID in Greenwood 50 is a sixth through twelfth-grade system to prepare students in the academic middle for four-year college eligibility. These are students who are capable of completing a college-prep curriculum but may be falling short of their potential. The core component of the program is the AVID elective, which supports students as they tackle the most rigorous classes. AVID’s teaching strategies, curriculum, and trainings are used not only in the AVID elective class, but by subject-area teachers schoolwide.
