    Dear Parents and Guardians,

    The purpose of this letter is to establish a line of communication between

    myself and the homes of my students in order to promote a cooperative effort in

    helping the students to be successful in Honors Chemistry this semester. Outlined below

    are explanations of the rules and procedures for what students and parents/guardians can expect from this course. Please let me know how I can further help your student.

    Grades may be accessed through Power Schools. Please monitor your

    student’s progress and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Each quarterly grade will be calculated as follows:

    Major = 40%

    Minor = 40%

    Lab = 20%

    Final Exam

    Regular Attendance is important to receive the instruction provided on

    the materials covered. The student must take responsibility for making up

    any work missed while absent. Assignments missed during absences are

    listed in Power Schools and/or google classroom. If students have any

    questions about work missed, they must ask before or after class.

    Units covered include

    Atomic Structure and Nuclear Processes

    Bonding and Chemical Formulas

    States of Matter

    Solutions, Acids and Bases

    Chemical Reactions

    Thermochemistry and Chemical Kinetics

    Materials that students need every day include a 3ring

    binder (at least 1 inch), pencils or pens, and colored pencils. Subject dividers may also be helpful in organizing the binder. Laptop. Calculator.

    Information/Communication between students, parents, and me is

    essential. Please visit our class webpage, located at

    information for our google classroom. If you need any additional

    information or have any questions, please email me at gatesg@gwd50.org

    or call the school at (864)941-5600.

    Thank you for sharing your student with me. I look forward to a productive

    and exciting semester.
