1.
First things first: Never –
ever – indent a paragraph by typing space-space-space-space-space. (No matter what anyone says, you should not be that spacey…) 2.
Second things next: Do not indent
a paragraph by pressing the <TAB> key. 3.
To indent the first line of each paragraph in a document by one-half
inch, simply set the “upside-down house” to the half-inch mark on the
horizontal ruler line. [1] See the
figure below. 4.
Then, when you start typing, your paragraph will be indented
properly. When you press the
<ENTER> key to end a paragraph, the next paragraph will automatically
be indented for you – as will every paragraph. NOTE: If you want a
sub-paragraph not to be indented, don’t press <ENTER> at the end of the
main paragraph. Instead, press
<SHIFT>+<ENTER> -- the “soft line break” – twice; then, continue
typing in the sub-paragraph. |
