Greenwood School District 50
WordWork:  AutoText

1.   AutoText allows you to define certain phrases – such as “Greenwood School District 50” – that you type regularly and frequently.  When the phrase is defined, Word will automatically fill in the complete phrase after you type the first four or five characters.

2.   To create an AutoText phrase in Word, click Insert/AutoText/AutoText from the main menu bar at the top of the Word screen.  (You may see some other options in the AutoText menu that can help you with specific types of documents.  Feel free to experiment with those later.)

3.   You will see the AutoCorrect window (see image below).  On the line labeled “Enter AutoText entries here,” type your phrase exactly the way you want it appear.  Click the Add button.

4.   In your Word document, begin typing the phrase.  After the fourth or fifth character, you will see a pop-up box showing your AutoText.  Press <ENTER> to accept the AutoText – and it will be entered for you automatically.  Then continue your typing.

5.   If the AutoText is not what you want, just keep typing and the pop-up box will disappear a few characters later.
