Re: How to Code No-Show Students in SASI
During the
calculation of graduation rates and HSAP longitudinal passage rates for the
2005–06 report cards, questions were raised regarding how to code and document
students who are marked as no-shows at the beginning of a school year because
they attend another school. The Office of Research and the Office of Technology
have been working together to address a permanent solution to this problem. That
solution will be implemented in the 2007–08 school year.
The Office
of Technology has devised a temporary solution for the current school year. If
a student has been entered as a no-show because the student moved to a school
in another school district, transferred to another school in your district, or
has been retained in another school in your district, the seven digit BEDS code for the school the student is currently
attending must be provided.
There are
two fields in SASI that will be used (temporarily) to enter the seven digit BEDS
code for the school the student is currently attending. The first four digits
of the BEDS code should be entered
in the SDE Temp2 field and the last
three digits of the BEDS code should
be entered in the SDE Temp3 field. Both
of these fields are located on Page 2 of the Student atom. Completing both of
these fields will allow the Office of Research to track these particular
no-show students without requiring additional paper documentation from your
school. Providing this data will also assist the Office of Safe Schools and
Youth Services with the dropout calculations.

A
comprehensive list of SC schools with their seven-digit BEDS code is available
on our website at http://www.ed.sc.gov/agency/offices/tech/dts/TechDocs.html.
We will begin collecting this data during the QDC2/Precode upload. If you need
further assistance with this process please contact District Technology
Services at dtsqueue@ed.sc.gov or
803-734-7000. Questions about graduation rates and HSAP longitudinal passage
rates should be directed to April Bolin at abolin@ed.sc.gov.
For questions regarding dropout information, contact Aveene Coleman at acoleman@ed.sc.gov.
