TO: ALL STUDENTS FROM: TEACHERS, COUNSELORS,
AND ADMINISTRATORS Choosing your career is one of the most important decisions you will
ever make. This Program of Studies
has been designed to acquaint you with your options and to guide you in
selecting courses that will provide you with the foundation for a rewarding
career. It is our belief that the
curriculum should not determine your career possibilities; career choices
should determine your personal curriculum. We have provided a group of career clusters or paths that should
guide you in deciding which courses to take.
If you plan to attend a four-year college, you may select college
prep, honors, and advanced placement courses.
If you are planning to attend a two-year college or to go straight
from high school to the workplace, you may choose to take tech prep
courses. Based on your personal career
goals, you may need to select courses from both college prep and tech prep
clusters. The tech prep courses (applied academic courses) in mathematics,
science, and communications are similar in content to traditional college
prep courses but use real-life examples and emphasize contextual
learning. The course content is
designed to be rigorous and challenging.
We also encourage you to seek dual credit courses at local two-and
four-year colleges while enrolled in high school. Please review carefully the courses offered at the G. Frank Russell
Career Center. These programs are directly
linked to many career opportunities and can prepare you for direct job entry
or further education. Participation in
school-to-work programs and activities will expand your employability and
career options. Be sure to ask for help and guidance in choosing your courses. Working as a team, we can design an effective career pathway that will give you the foundation you need to meet the academic and technological challenges of the twenty-first century. |
