Career Options

Greenwood School District 50 has developed programs and courses to prepare students for the future and the workplace.  Five career clusters have been established:  Arts and Communications, Business and Marketing, Engineering/Industrial Technology, Environmental and Agriculture, and Health and Human Services.  Included in this document are examples of career options for each cluster and electives that students may choose that will strengthen their educational foundation.  It is important to note here that the career options listed under each cluster are examples; there are others under each cluster that are not listed.  Some careers could be placed under several clusters.

By choosing a pathway and following the course selections suggested by the pathway, students should find greater relevance in the courses they are taking and be more adequately prepared to go on to further training or the job site after graduating from high school.  If students use this information as a guide and work hard to reach their individual potentials, they should be able to successfully develop relevant academic skills, marketable occupational skills, and appropriate workplace behaviors that will lead to rewarding careers.

Students should carefully plan their four years of high school.  Counselors and parents should be consulted when choosing courses.  Students should talk with adults who are currently employed in careers in which students show interest. These adults can provide valuable input into preparation for a career.  Decisions made in high school can pay dividends in the future.
