Montessori Education

Montessori Education Programs for preschool through Grade 4 will be offered in   Greenwood School District 50.  These classes will be taught at Mathews Elementary School.  In the Montessori Program, students are taught in a multi-age classroom using the Montessori curriculum. This program provides a hands-on, individualized approach to learning that is success oriented. The goal of the program is to “teach children how to learn” so they may become independent learners who possess an internal sense of purpose and motivation and who have mutual respect for all.  Most of the work completed in the class is done independently or in small self-selected groups.  Although students make choices about their work, the teachers are there to prepare the learning environment and guide them in their learning process.
