Posted by Debbie Green at 3/16/2012
This article gives lots of ideas and websites for parent involvement.  If you find an idea that you feel would be great for Merrywood, plese let me know.  Parent involvment is very important to the Merrywood Family and as the article states, "It is more than parent conferences and PTO."

  • Article - 10 ways to Eliminate Bullying - Great Read!

This is a fairly interesting article on ways that you can help your child understand "bullying" behavior.  We are fortunate at Merrywood to have our Lifelong Guidellines and LIFESKILLS character education program in place.  Each week teachers focus on one of the 5 Lifelong Guidelines or one of the 18 LIFESKILLS and teach these behaviors through read alouds, community meetings, and role playing.  This program has greatly reduced the amount of office behavioral referrals and daily classroom  disruptions.  As a Merrywood family, how do you use this program at home.  Do you have any suggestions as to how we could implement this program more effectively?  Thanks for your input.

  • Welcome to my Blog

Posted by Debbie Green at 3/4/2012
In an attempt to share information with the families of Merrywood Elementary, I have decided to "Blog".  This is a new adventure for me so please be patient and forgiving. :)  You see I am what they call a "digital immigrant."  In my college days I had a typewriter not a computer.  My first years of teaching were full of dust chalk, ditto machines, and overhead projectors.  In October 1978 I started my first teaching job where I taught 1/2 day kindergarten classes.  I am in my 33rd year and those days seem so long ago!  As an educational system we have come a long way with technology where all students have access to computers, smart boards, IPADS, cell phones and the like.  I have attempted to keep up with the "new" technology but as soon as I learn "new" technologies there are even more "new" technologies to learn!  It is very difficult for this "digital immigrant" to keep up!
Most of the parents and all of the students associated with Merrywood Elementary are considered "digital natives."  In other words, they have always had the opportunity for internet access, social media sites, blogs, podcasts, etc.  So, in my attempt to keep up with these "digital natives"  I will blog as often as I can.  I invite you to respond to my blogs as often as you would like - HAPPY BLOGGING MUSKETEERS!
