ACTS Magnet Program Performance Policy 2011-2012
Performance assessments are an integral part of the ACTS Magnet Program. They allow our students to showcase both the process and the product of classroom curriculum. The ACTS Fine Arts teachers value the instructional process, as it naturally prepares students to perform for a variety of audiences. Equally important is giving our students the opportunity to perform on a regular basis, enriching their lives by fostering confidence, critical/creative thinking skills, and self-discipline. The very essence and cornerstone of a successful Fine Arts school is disciplined, creative collaboration. Every student’s contribution is necessary for the success of the performance product in both the Visual and Performing Arts.
Therefore:
· Every student in the ACTS Magnet Program is required to participate in all scheduled performances/exhibits. (refer to dates and individual teacher syllabus)
· Additional day or evening outreach performance opportunities may arise throughout the year. Ample notification and details will be provided to parents/guardians. (i.e.- performing the “National Anthem” at ball games, plays for Woodfields, Literacy Alive, civic clubs,
· It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to provide transportation to and from all scheduled performances that are off-site, local venues.
· Students are required to participate in all scheduled rehearsals during or after school. (refer to dates and individual teacher syllabus)
· For the safety of all students and staff, parents will pick up students at the scheduled rehearsal dismissal time in the front of the school. If parents are more than 15 minutes late for pick-up, they must come inside the school building to get their child.
· Costumes/uniforms, makeup, musical instruments, and personal props are carefully selected to enhance each performance. No unauthorized substitutions or embellishments will be allowed.
· Scripted lines and choreographed movements are predetermined during the rehearsal process and should not be altered during performances.
· Brewer ACTS students are required to arrive in performance attire at the designated meeting space one hour prior to the performance time. Woodfields ACTS students should arrive 30 minutes prior to a scheduled performance.
· In the event that a student misses a scheduled rehearsal or performance, he/she will be required to complete an alternative graded assignment to be determined by the Fine Arts instructor. (refer to Focus teacher’s syllabus and to ACTS webpage-http://www.gwd50.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=46)
Please cut, sign, and return THIS PAGE ONLY to your child’s FOCUS TEACHER no later than AUGUST 25th. ACTS 5th grade students return this to your HR teacher.
Student/Parent Contract
I have carefully read and reviewed the ACTS Magnet Program Performance Policy and agree to follow all of the expectations and requirements outlined. I understand that students are expected to attend all scheduled rehearsals and performances. Graded assignments will be given to those who do not fulfill these commitments.

Parents-
Whew! These are the ACTS performance dates for 2011-2012. Additional individual focus performance opportunities may arise, but we have tried very hard to schedule and lock in our major performances for the entire year. Needless to say—it’s going to be a busy, fabulous year!! We ask that you keep this packed schedule in mind as you sign your child up for extracurricular activities this year. As parents, you know your child best and how he/she manages a heavy academic/arts load. Please try to be flexible and realize that commitment to rehearsals and performances is the nature of a successful and credible Fine Arts program.
We would like to thank you, in advance, for your dedication to the ACTS Magnet Program and for your willingness to commit the time and energy to seeing that your child attends these important dates. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s Focus teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
