Transition From Middle School To High School

Beginning high school is a major change for young people.  Academically, high school requires a higher level of class preparation, study skills, and time management.

Socially, the high school years are a time of important change in the maturity of peer and other relationships.  During this time, adolescents are also developing a new sense of self, an identity separate from their parents.  Some high school students will also enter the work world through part-time or summer employment.  The transition to high school requires increased self-management skills in order to successfully negotiate the challenges of school, work, family life, and social relationships.
